Anything else for you? – asks the shop assistant politely. With the help of recommendation engines, the same question pops up when making a purchase in a web shop. ‘Customers who bought this DVD also purchased Part 2 as well as the book with the same title,’ is displayed by web shops, and we could not imagine how big of a business that is. Yet, this is exactly the branch in which Gravity R&D has gained global fame for Hungarian IT professionals. They successfully divested one of their divisions two years ago (which may be the real reason for their outstanding performance in that particular year).
Over the recent period, the company has made improvements in three major areas – says Domonkos Tikk managing director. Firstly, they have been expanding in geographical terms: they have opened offices in Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand, while adding another nearshore business location to the currently existing European branch offices in Turkey and Romania. Secondly, they have extended their range of products: they offer an easierto-use product for SMEs called Yusp, which is available for 49 dollars per month for those operating online shops. In order to reach impressive targets the company contemplates a capital raise of 10 to 20 million dollars which shall require business partners in the medium run.
The third area appears to be the most promising one. The solution, which has been marketed through the joint efforts of Gravity and Deloitte, is now being live tested in hypermarkets of an international supermarket chain in Romania. The system proposes smart offers not only for those shopping online, but also for those who personally do the shopping in the market. What’s more, the engine’s personalised digital vouchers find their targets even before the customer could choose a market to go to. Customers who download the application of a given retail chain are shown highly personalised discounted offers in accordance with their specific interest, online search history and shopping preferences. In addition, the system traces the movement of the customer from the time of entering the shop and sends notifications or recommendations when deemed highly necessary. Customers also have the chance to draw up a shopping list and the system supports the collection of items with the help of navigation inside the shop.
